CEO of Veterans Aid Dr Hugh Milroy said, “It was a pleasure to welcome Claude who had the opportunity to see our ops staff at work and get a real sense of what we deal with here among the ex-service community. Although Stemm vun der Strooss is not a veterans’ organisation, its ethos is similar to our own and I am a great admirer of their work.”
Founded in 1996, Stemm vun der Strooss work for the social and professional integration of disadvantaged people. Subsidised by the Ministry of Health, it is a nonprofit organisation that works closely with the Luxembourg Red Cross.
Those whom it helps include the homeless, the unemployed, beneficiaries of the guaranteed minimum income, ex-offenders, asylum seekers, migrant, people with mental health disorders and dependency on drugs and/or alcohol.
“In fact much of what we both deal with are societal problems related to poverty and the socialisation it leads to. These are issues that cross national borders and as a member of FEANTSA (The European Federation of National Organisations Working with the Homeless) Veterans Aid is well aware of this. Compassion, swift intervention and practical support is a formula that works everywhere.”
